Year 4 pupils had an unforgettable day stepping back in time during their visit to the Ribchester Roman Museum.

The trip brought their classroom learning to life as the children explored a range of fascinating Roman artefacts. Having studied the Romans in class, the pupils were excited to recognise objects and share their knowledge, asking thoughtful questions about how people lived in Roman Britain. Staff at the museum were incredibly impressed—our Year 4’s knowledge truly blew them away!

A real highlight for our Year 4 children was the chance to dress up as Roman soldiers. Wearing helmets and armour, they fully embraced the experience, imagining what it would have been like to defend a Roman fort. Many pupils said this was their favourite part of the day, as it made history feel real and exciting.

The class also visited the remains of the granary building, where they learned how Romans stored food to keep their settlement running smoothly. The children were particularly interested in how cleverly the buildings were designed to protect supplies.

Exploring the remains of the Roman baths was another memorable moment. Pupils were amazed by the idea of underfloor heating and enjoyed discovering how the Romans used the baths not just for washing, but for relaxing and socialising.

Throughout the day, our Year 4 pupils showed fantastic enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour. The visit was a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding of Roman life and create lasting memories together as a class.
