Exciting Learning About Growth in the Classroom
This afternoon, the classroom was full of excitement as pupils continued their learning about growth. We began by revisiting our learning from last term about human growth and development, reminding ourselves how humans start off small and grow throughout their lives.
We then explored how plants grow and discovered that, just like humans, plants also begin small and grow over time. The children thought carefully about what humans need to grow — water, food and light — and were delighted to learn that plants need the same things too!
Using this knowledge, we worked together to order the cress growth cycle and took part in a range of hands-on investigations. The children enjoyed using their senses to explore a fully grown cress plant by tasting, feeling, smelling and observing it closely.
To finish the session, everyone created their own cress pot. Over the next 10 days, we will be carefully watching our cress grow and continuing our learning through observation and discussion.
It was a wonderful afternoon of curiosity, investigation and enthusiastic learning!
