This week, our Year 5 and Year 6 children took part in an exciting and important educational visit to Crucial Crew. The event is designed to help pupils learn essential life skills through a series of realistic, interactive scenarios led by emergency services and safety professionals.

Throughout the day, the children worked in small groups and moved around a range of different workshops. They learned how to make safe decisions in real-life situations such as:

  • Road and rail safety – how to stay safe as pedestrians, cyclists and passengers.

  • Fire safety – what to do in the event of a fire at home and how to create a family escape plan.

  • Online safety and cyberbullying – recognising risks online and how to stay safe on social media and gaming platforms.

  • First aid – how to respond in an emergency, call for help and put someone in the recovery position.

  • Personal safety and peer pressure – understanding how to make sensible choices and seek help when needed.

  • Emergency services – knowing when and how to dial 999 with clear and accurate information.

The sessions were practical, engaging and linked perfectly to our school ethos of preparing children for life beyond the classroom. The pupils showed excellent behaviour, asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated maturity throughout the visit.

We were incredibly proud of how sensibly they approached each scenario, and many of them commented on how helpful and memorable the day was.

A big thank you to the Crucial Crew team and all the volunteers who helped make the day such a valuable learning experience.
