On Monday morning, pupils gathered in the hall for a very special assembly to kick off celebrations for our school’s 50th birthday! The exciting event was led by Mr. Thomas, who took us on a nostalgic journey through time, exploring just how much things have changed since the school first opened its doors in 1975.
To help pupils understand how long 50 years really is, Mr. Thomas launched a fun and interactive “What’s Older?” quiz, challenging children to guess whether everyday items were older or younger than the school itself. There were a few surprises and lots of laughter as pupils realised how far back the 1970s really were!
But the highlight for many was the “Guess Who?” teacher edition – a fantastic quiz that had everyone in stitches! Mr. Thomas revealed school photos of our current teachers and staff, and pupils had to guess who was who. From black and white photos to retro haircuts, the photos gave a brilliant glimpse into the past and helped show that even our teachers were once pupils themselves!
The assembly was a brilliant way to launch our 50th birthday celebrations. It not only helped children reflect on how the world has changed over five decades, but it also encouraged them to think about chronology – putting events and developments in time order and understanding their place in history.
