Today Year 5 and 6 completed a hike around the local area to launch our topic of ‘Marvellous Mountains’. Children packed a rucksack of essentials, including drink, snack, compass and map and we hiked through the Yarrow Valley Country Park. As budding geographers, we used our compass to check the direction of travel, and our maps to choose the best route. Despite some moans and groans as we ascended back to school and the tired legs began to ache, children PERSEVERED and we definitely ignited a PASSION AND INTEREST for walking in some of our children. Our walk also provided the perfect opportunity to recap on learning of rivers, and habitats, especially as we saw a colony of frogs hopping across the fields! It was a wonderful afternoon spent in the community and all children showed PRIDE IN OUR SCHOOL in their behaviour, interaction with community members and sharing of knowledge and learning.
