Mrs Smith (from Chorley Schools' Partnership Programme) came to visit us on Friday. She told us all about making healthy food choices and we looked carefully at the amount of sugar in the foods we eat.
Did you know, it is recommended that a child in Y1 should have no more than 6 cubes of sugar (19g) per day? A 500ml bottle of cola contains more than 10 cubes of sugar! 3 scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce contains more than 12 cubes of sugar!
Here we are buiding sugar cube towers to show the different amounts of sugar in food.
We also looked at the 'traffic light' system displayed on food products. The traffic lights help us to see if the food is healthy (green), fine as an ocassional treat (orange) or unhealthy (red). Mrs Smith challenged us to try and find a food product that has entirely RED traffic lights and a product that has entirely green traffic lights.
